DP World Tour Championship 2026: Dates, Venue and the Rules on Golf Betting in Dubai
The DP World Tour Championship 2026 runs 12-15 November at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai. Dates, US$10m purse, and why golf betting in Dubai is illegal.

Last updated: 8 November 2026
The DP World Tour Championship 2026 is played from 12 to 15 November at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, where the season's Race to Dubai champion is crowned. Betting on it is a different matter: there is no legal way to bet on golf from inside Dubai. The UAE's only licensed online sportsbook operator says its Play971 site is "accessible within the UAE only, except Dubai", and every other betting route is a criminal offence.
Key takeaways
- The DP World Tour Championship runs Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November 2026 at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai. Schedule listings name the Earth Course and a US$10 million purse.
- It is the second of two "DP World Tour Play-Offs" events. The first, the Abu Dhabi Championship, ends on 8 November.
- There is no licensed sports betting in Dubai. Play971, run by the only GCGRA-licensed sports wagering company, blocks access in Dubai.
- Betting with an unlicensed bookmaker or offshore site risks up to two years' incarceration or a Dh50,000 fine under Article 461 of the Penal Code.
- Promoting unlicensed betting online is punishable by imprisonment and/or a fine of Dh250,000 to Dh500,000 under Article 38 of the Cybercrimes Law.
When is the DP World Tour Championship 2026?
The tournament runs from Thursday 12 November to Sunday 15 November 2026. The DP World Tour confirmed the dates when it published its 2026 schedule in September 2025. Dubai Media Office's release said the event is "where the 2026 Race to Dubai Champion will be crowned".
It closes a season that the tour says carries "a record total prize fund of $157.5 million (outside the Major Championships)". Both the Abu Dhabi Championship and the DP World Tour Championship are Rolex Series events.
Where is it played?
At Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. The Golf News Net's January 2026 schedule lists the venue as the Earth Course.
We could not load the DP World Tour's own tournament page while preparing this article. The dates and venue therefore come from the tour's schedule announcement as published by Dubai Media Office and Golf Digest Middle East, and the course name and purse from The Golf News Net.
How much prize money is on offer?
The DP World Tour Championship carries a US$10 million purse, according to The Golf News Net's 2026 schedule table. The same table lists the Abu Dhabi Championship at US$9 million. We have not seen a 2026 payout breakdown by finishing position, and coverage of the 2025 edition gave conflicting purse figures, so treat the US$10 million as the scheduled figure.
How do the DP World Tour Play-Offs work?
The 2026 season ends with two back-to-back events in the UAE, branded the DP World Tour Play-Offs:
Event — Dates — Venue (as listed)
- Abu Dhabi Championship — 5–8 November — Yas Links Golf Club, Abu Dhabi (Golf Digest Middle East)
- DP World Tour Championship — 12–15 November — Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai
One schedule source lists the Abu Dhabi venue as "TBA", so the Yas Links listing comes from Golf Digest Middle East alone. The Dubai field had not been published when we checked. We have left out field-size figures from earlier seasons, because exemptions have changed the number from year to year.
Is golf betting legal in Dubai?
No. Nobody in Dubai can legally bet on the DP World Tour Championship, or on any other sport, from inside the emirate.
The law starts with the Penal Code, Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021. Article 460 defines gambling as a game where each side agrees to pay the winner if they lose. Article 461 punishes the player with "incarceration for a period not exceeding (2) two years or a fine not exceeding (50,000) fifty thousand AED". Article 462 goes further for anyone who runs a gambling venue or organises gambling in a public place or a place prepared for it: up to 10 years' temporary imprisonment and a fine of at least Dh100,000. Golf is treated no differently from cricket or football.
The exception is gaming licensed by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA). As of 4 November 2026 its register lists a single company for internet gaming and sports wagering: Coin Technology Projects LLC, which runs Play971. Play971's help centre is explicit about Dubai: "Play971 is accessible within the UAE only, except Dubai. Access is not available in Dubai or outside the UAE." The site checks device location and asks users to switch off VPNs and proxies.
So a resident watching the final round at Jumeirah Golf Estates has no licensed option. Neither does anyone following on TV elsewhere in Dubai. Our guide to whether Play971 is legal and usable in Dubai covers the restriction in more detail. We have also not confirmed whether the licensed site lists golf markets for this event at all.
Can tourists in Dubai for the golf place a bet?
Not legally. Visitors are bound by the same Penal Code as residents. The licensed platform is not available in Dubai, and its sign-up rules are built around UAE residents. Khaleej Times reported in June that each Play971 user must submit an Emirates ID, a phone number and an address. The site's footer says users must be 21 or older and that "individuals from restricted jurisdictions are not permitted to register or use this platform."
Logging into a home-country betting account from a Dubai hotel room does not change where the bet is placed. That account is not licensed by the GCGRA. Our explainer on whether tourists can gamble in the UAE covers the wider rules for visitors.
Are offshore golf betting sites and tipsters legal?
No. An offshore sportsbook that takes UAE customers is not GCGRA-licensed, so betting with it falls under Article 461. Selling or advertising tips that steer people to those sites can fall under Article 38 of the Cybercrimes Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021. Article 38 punishes anyone who uses a website or information network to "promote practicing of gambling activities in the cases other than the authorized" with imprisonment and/or a fine of Dh250,000 to Dh500,000. Under Article 463 of the Penal Code, any money or tools used in gambling are seized and confiscated.
For how the two brands run by the licensed company differ, including which one has a racing section, see our TrueWin vs Play971 comparison.
What if betting has become a problem?
Four days of in-play golf leaves plenty of room to place far more bets than intended. The licensed site has player-control tools for setting limits. Unlicensed sites carry none of those protections, and no UAE regulator will take your complaint if one refuses to pay. Free, confidential support options in the UAE are listed in our responsible gambling help guide.
