UAE Lottery vs Big Ticket: The Odds Maths, With the Working Shown
Lucky Day's 1 in 8,835,372 jackpot checked from the rules, and the break-even entry counts at which a Dh500 Big Ticket beats it. Scenarios, not guesses.

Last updated: 23 October 2026
One Dh50 UAE Lottery Lucky Day ticket has a 1 in 8,835,372 chance of the Dh30 million jackpot, a figure you can rebuild from the game's rules in one line. Big Ticket's odds cannot be stated, because the operator does not cap or publish the number of entries. Its own rules say the odds "cannot be fixed in advance". What we can do is find the break-even point. A single Dh500 Big Ticket gives better grand-prize odds than Dh500 of Lucky Day tickets whenever fewer than about 883,500 valid entries are in the drum. Whether that holds in a given month is something only Big Ticket knows.
Key takeaways
- Lucky Day's published odds match the game matrix exactly: 736,281 ways to pick six numbers from 31, times 12 month numbers, equals 8,835,372.
- Big Ticket's draw rules say there is no cap on entries and that the odds "depend on the total number of valid entries". No ticket count is published, so every Big Ticket figure below is a scenario, not a fact.
- Dh500 buys ten Lucky Day tickets, a 1 in 883,537 jackpot chance. On our calculation, one Big Ticket beats that only if fewer than 883,537 entries are in the draw, or about 1.77 million under the current "Buy 2, Get 2 Free" offer.
- By our arithmetic, the Dh25 million grand prize alone would match Lucky Day's published 42.62 per cent RTP at about 123,000 full-price entries. Above that, it returns less per dirham.
- Group tickets such as the ten-way share behind August's Dh20 million win change how many people share the prize, not the odds per dirham.
How are the UAE Lottery's Lucky Day odds calculated?
Lucky Day asks you to pick six "Days" numbers from 1 to 31 and one "Month" number from 1 to 12. The number of ways to choose six from 31, ignoring order, is 736,281. Multiply by the 12 possible Month numbers and you get 8,835,372 combinations. One of them is the jackpot.
The other tiers follow from the same counting. We worked each one out and checked it against the operator's How to Play page:
Prize — Match — Our calculation — Official odds
- Dh30 million (shared) — 6 + Month — 1 in 8,835,372 — 1 in 8,835,372
- Dh5 million (shared) — 6, no Month — 1 in 803,216 — 1 in 803,216
- Dh100,000 — 5 + Month — 1 in 58,902 — 1 in 58,902
- Dh1,000 — 5, or 4 + Month — 1 in 1,437 — 1 in 1,437
- Dh100 — Month + 0–3 Days — 1 in 12.08 — 1 in 12.1
Every tier matches. Taken together, about one ticket in 12 wins something, nearly always the Dh100 prize. There is also Lucky Chance: three Dh50,000 prizes per draw, drawn from ticket IDs. Its odds depend on sales, which are not published.
Why can't anyone tell you Big Ticket's odds?
Big Ticket is a raffle, not a numbers game. Each Dh500 ticket is one entry, and winners are drawn by hand from a physical drum. The operator's draw rules spell out the consequence: "There is no cap on entries. Winners are selected at random from all valid tickets for that draw, so the odds depend on the total number of valid entries and cannot be fixed in advance."
So the odds for one ticket are 1 in N, where N is the number of valid entries in that series. N is not published, and we have not found it reported by any outlet we would trust. Two tempting shortcuts don't work:
- Ticket numbers. Winning tickets in recent draws have six-digit numbers, including 267822 in August. Big Ticket does not say numbers are issued in order, so a high number tells you nothing about sales.
- Free tickets. The current offer, "Buy 2 tickets, Get 2 Free", means entries and dirhams no longer line up. Free tickets are entries too, so they increase N.
What does Dh500 buy in each draw?
We cannot give Big Ticket's real odds, so the table runs the same Dh500 through five assumed entry counts. The Lucky Day side does not change, because its odds are fixed by the matrix: ten Dh50 tickets with different numbers give a 1 in 883,537 jackpot chance.
If Big Ticket had N entries — One Dh500 ticket: grand-prize odds — Dh25m prize per ticket (25m ÷ N) — Ten Lucky Day tickets: jackpot odds
- 50,000 — 1 in 50,000 — Dh500 — 1 in 883,537
- 100,000 — 1 in 100,000 — Dh250 — 1 in 883,537
- 250,000 — 1 in 250,000 — Dh100 — 1 in 883,537
- 500,000 — 1 in 500,000 — Dh50 — 1 in 883,537
- 1,000,000 — 1 in 1,000,000 — Dh25 — 1 in 883,537
These are scenarios, not estimates of Big Ticket's sales. They show two things. For the chance of a life-changing sum, a Big Ticket entry beats Dh500 of Lucky Day tickets unless the draw is very crowded: the break-even is N = 883,537 at full price. Under "Buy 2, Get 2 Free", Dh500 effectively buys two entries, so the break-even doubles to about 1.77 million.
Second, the value of each ticket falls fast as N rises. The middle column is the grand prize's contribution to a ticket's expected value. At 50,000 entries the Dh25 million is worth the full Dh500. At 500,000 it is worth Dh50.
When does Big Ticket pay back as much as Lucky Day?
Lucky Day's published return to player is 42.62 per cent of the pre-VAT price. To compare Big Ticket on the same basis, take the Dh500 ticket's pre-VAT price of Dh476.19. The grand prize alone returns 42.62 per cent of that when:
25,000,000 ÷ (N × 476.19) = 0.4262, so N ≈ 123,000.
At the full Dh500 price, the Dh25 million matches Lucky Day's published 42.62 per cent (which excludes Lucky Chance) at about 123,000 entries. With every buyer taking the 2-for-2 offer, the effective price halves and the break-even rises to about 246,000. Big Ticket's consolation gold bars, weekly e-draws and Big Spin add something on top, but the operator does not give a cash value for the bars, so we have left them out.
What we cannot tell you is which side of 123,000 Big Ticket usually falls on. Anyone who claims to know is guessing.
What are the chances of winning anything at all?
On this measure the two games are very different. Lucky Day pays thousands of small prizes in every draw. On 7 October, Khaleej Times reported one Dh100,000 winner, 72 Dh1,000 winners and 5,331 Dh100 winners, which is 5,404 in the main tiers, plus three Lucky Chance winners.
Big Ticket pays far fewer prizes per series. For Series 292 the line-up is one grand prize, five gold-bar consolation prizes, four gold-bar winners in each weekly e-draw and three Big Spin places, about two dozen in all. If N were 100,000, one ticket would have roughly a 1 in 4,000 chance of any of them, against Lucky Day's 1 in 12.
How many tickets does the UAE Lottery sell?
The operator does not say, but its results allow a rough estimate of our own. The Dh100 tier is won by about one entry in 12.08. On 7 October, 5,331 Dh100 prizes implies roughly 5,331 × 12.08 ≈ 64,000 entries. On 23 September, 6,752 implies about 82,000.
Treat these as back-of-envelope estimates, not sales data. Players do not choose Month numbers evenly, so a popular month can push the count up or down. The estimate does suggest that each draw's three Lucky Chance prizes go to roughly one entry in 21,000 to 27,000.
Does buying with a group improve your odds?
Not per dirham. Reynaldo Herboso's August Dh20 million Big Ticket win was bought by a group of ten, and Gulf News reported each share at Dh2 million. If ten people each put Dh50 into one ticket, the group's odds are those of one ticket, and each person gets a tenth of any prize. If they pool Dh5,000 for ten tickets, the group's chance is ten times higher and each share is still a tenth. Either way, each member's expected return per dirham is the same as playing alone. A syndicate swaps a tiny chance of a huge prize for a slightly larger chance of a smaller one.
So which is the better bet?
Neither, in the sense of making money. Both return less than they take in, and that is how they fund their prizes. Lucky Day gives you a known, very long shot and frequent small wins. Big Ticket gives you a much shorter shot at a big prize if its draw is not crowded, but you have to trust a number you are never shown.
Big Ticket and the UAE Lottery are legal under the federal regulator, the GCGRA. Offshore apps selling "lottery" tickets are not. If the arithmetic stops feeling like a game, our guide to problem-gambling help in the UAE lists where to turn.
FAQ
What are the odds of winning the UAE Lottery jackpot? 1 in 8,835,372 per Dh50 Lucky Day ticket. That is 736,281 ways to pick six numbers from 31, times 12 Month numbers.
What are the odds of winning Big Ticket? Unknown. The operator does not cap or publish entries, and its rules say the odds depend on the number of valid entries. One ticket's chance is 1 in that number.
Is Big Ticket better odds than the UAE Lottery? For the top prize per dirham, yes, if fewer than about 883,500 entries are in the draw at full price. Big Ticket does not publish the count, so nobody outside the company can confirm it.
Do free Big Ticket tickets change the odds? They add entries to the drum, so they lengthen everyone's odds. They also lower the effective price for buyers who use the offer.
How many UAE Lottery tickets are sold per draw? The operator doesn't publish this. Our rough estimate from the Dh100 prize count is 64,000 to 82,000 entries in two recent draws.
