Punchdrunk Is Bringing the Middle East's First Immersive Theatre Show to Wynn Al Marjan Island

Last updated: 17 August 2026

Wynn Al Marjan Island has announced a partnership with Punchdrunk, the British company behind Sleep No More, to create an original stage production exclusively for the Ras Al Khaimah resort. The show will be Punchdrunk's first in the Middle East and North Africa, and is due to debut with the resort's opening in 2027. It is the first named entertainment attraction at a property best known for holding the UAE's only land-based casino licence.

Key takeaways

  • Announced on 29 June 2026: an original production, exclusive to the resort, from the London-founded pioneer of immersive theatre.
  • The show debuts with Wynn Al Marjan Island's opening in 2027 and is Punchdrunk's first production in the MENA region.
  • Audiences choose between a traditional seated performance upstairs and a free-roaming immersive journey downstairs and backstage.
  • The resort's first named entertainment attraction — and part of a non-gaming stack being built around its casino licence.

What was announced

According to Wynn's newsroom release, reported on 29 and 30 June 2026, the production will be conceived and directed by Felix Barrett MBE, Punchdrunk's artistic director and founder, in collaboration with Wynn Resorts chief executive Craig S. Billings. It is inspired by a traditional Las Vegas revue — world-class song and dance — but with a Punchdrunk twist: at booking, guests pick how they watch. A seated ticket buys the conventional view upstairs; an immersive ticket sends you roaming downstairs and backstage, where the hidden world behind the curtain is revealed. Each perspective, Wynn says, offers a complete but distinct lens on the same story.

The theatre itself is part of the show: Art Deco architecture, rich fabrics and sculpted drapery evoking Hollywood's golden era and 1970s Las Vegas, with every area from the lobby to the lifts built into the experience. Wynn's August 2026 fact sheet puts the venue at 450 seats, plus 48 VIP seats in a premium location and standing room for a further 402 guests. A ticket-registration page is already live on the resort's website.

Who is Punchdrunk?

Punchdrunk was founded in London in 2000 by Felix Barrett and is credited with defining modern immersive theatre: masked, free-roaming productions in which audiences wander through meticulously built worlds rather than sitting in rows. Its best-known work, Sleep No More — a wordless, film-noir reworking of Macbeth — ran for 14 years in New York across more than 5,000 performances, still runs in Seoul, and closes a decade-long Shanghai engagement this August. The Wynn show, however, is no import: it is being written from scratch for Al Marjan Island, the company's first production anywhere in the Middle East or North Africa.

Why it matters for the resort

Wynn Al Marjan Island is the only land-based casino licensee on the federal GCGRA's public register (as of April 2026), a position we track in our Wynn Al Marjan licence explainer. Yet almost everything Wynn has announced in 2026 has been non-gaming: 22 food and beverage venues, a Netflix Chef's Table partnership in February, thousands of hospitality hires, and now a purpose-built theatre. Wynn has form here — its Las Vegas resorts commissioned original productions for decades, and Le Rêve became one of the city's signature shows.

The logic is commercial as much as cultural. A casino licence no rival yet holds is the draw; restaurants, theatre and spectacle are what fill 1,530 rooms night after night. Naming the resort's first entertainment attraction well ahead of opening also signalled confidence in the timeline, despite the "modest delay" Wynn acknowledged in May — the opening has since been confirmed for September 2027, announced with the Q2 results on 4 August 2026.

What we do not know yet

The production has no announced title, cast, running time or ticket prices. It premieres with the resort's opening, confirmed for September 2027.
